Nikau Apartments is a privately owned and operated accommodation hostel located on the NMIT Campus offering independent living. As the preferred accommodation supplier for NMIT Te Pūkenga we provide a duty of pastoral care to all of our in-house learners, including specific requirements under the Education(Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021. Nikau has a dedicated team of Kaitiaki Ākonga to support our learner residents. Our team consists of a Residential Live in Manager and Residential Assistance Staff to provide 24/7 onsite support. Nikau's residential team is further supported by Saniti and NMIT Te Pūkenga's domestic and international learner support and wellbeing team. We always give NMIT students preference, however if you are a non-student talk to us, we do have gaps mainly during the summer.

2025 Fees

  • $100 Application fee
  • $400 security bond (refundable)

  • $320 Single Studio
  • $230 Shared Two Bedroom
  • $220 Shared Three Bedroom
  • $210 Shared Four Bedroom
  • * rates are exclusivly for NMIT students, per week plus cost of electricity. Non-sudents add $10 per room.

how to apply

Our busiest time is the first semester from February onwards when we have our main intake. To secure a room for the first semester please make sure to send us your application at least two months prior.
Please follow these steps when applying for a room:
1.- Complete the application form with all your details and send it to us
2.- We will get back to you within a few days confirming availability and an offer of acceptance
3.- Read the terms and conditions
4.- You then need to pay the application fee so we can book you in
5.- A deposit of two weeks rent must be paid at least four weeks before your arrival
6.- The bond must be paid on or before arrival

Apartments

Studio Apartment

Our Studio apartments are compact, on-suite and fully self-contained. Ideal for a single student wishing to life on their own. Each studio has one double bed, a desk and heating.

Two Bedroom

In the two Bedroom Apartment you will have your own bedroom and share the rest of the apartment with another student of the same gender. All apartments are fully self-contained and we proved linen and towel on your arrival.

Three Bedroom

The three Bedroom Apartments are very spacious. You will have your own bedroom and share the rest of the apartment with another student of the same gender.

Four Bedroom

The four Bedroom Apartment is a very large apartment with plenty of space for 4 people. You will have your own bedroom and share the rest of the apartment with other students of the same gender.
